Sign The Arms Deal
With its campaign „The Arms Deal - Taxing arms profits to help arms victims“ the World Peace Partnership e.V. builds awareness globally on the costs and consequences of arms exports and demands a 10% tax on profits of all international arms exports. Consequently the taxes collected shall be used to help achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Petition
TO: United Nations Secretary-General and General Assembly
We, the citizens of UN member states, stress that global military expenditure has increased 45 percent over the past 10 years, and now stands at over US$ 1.46 trillion per annum. The entire budget of the United Nations is only approx. 1.8 percent of this amount. Major international arms transfers have increased by almost 50 percent in the last four years, of which two-thirds go to developing countries.
We think
that there is a moral imperative for the producers of destructive weapons to pay for some of the immense damage they cause.
We know
that their profits are so large that a tax is easily affordable.
We believe
that the money raised would be enough to make a positive change in the lifes of millions of people.
We therefore call
on all governments of the United Nations to impose a 10% tax on the profits of arms exports of all arms producing companies. The taxes collected shall be used to help achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.
