Clare Short
Clare Short was a British MP (1983 to 2010), and Secretary of State for International Development (1997 – 2003). Ms Short resigned from Government in 2003 over the Iraq war; later writing her award-winning book ‘An Honourable Deception? New Labour, Iraq, and the Misuse of Power’.
Since 2006, Ms Short has become chair of the Advocacy Panel of Cities Alliance, which is committed to meeting the UN target to develop cities without slums. She is also chair of EITI which works for transparent reporting of oil and mineral payments to governments in order to reduce corruption and improve accountability She is a trustee of a number of charities and advises on numerous Committees including International Lawyers for Africa.
Ms Short has received a number of awards including the Wilberforce Medal and the Companion of the Volta in addition to honorary degrees from three Universities.
