Deepak Chopra urges to activate 100 million people for World Peace Festival
At the end of the World Peace Festival Conference 2011 in Berlin, Deepak Chopra, physician and bestselling author, surprised the conference attendees with another impressive commitment. He offered his help to spearhead an effort of getting 100 million people around the world activated by the time of the next World Peace Festival. This is not only a great contribution to World Peace Festival but is also understood as a big challenge for the WPF team.
Measuring peace - Steve Killelea presenting the Global Peace Index
At the World Peace Festival Conference Steve Killelea, founder of the Insitute for Economics and Peace and its Global Peace Index, stirred up a lot of attention. Peace can and should be measured to highlight successes and mistakes in international peace building, Killelea said. He also presented the Global Peace Index as a way to measure the monetary and economic impact of peace by comparing the per capita income and spending behavior between consumers in peaceful and less peaceful countries.
Philanthropist Mansoor Ijaz surprises with impressive commitment
Mega investor and philanthropist Mansoor Ijaz, who successfully negotiated various peace accords, for example the peace-treaty of Kashmir in 2000, came up with an impressive commitment at the World Peace Festival Conference 2011 to set up - in partnership with the World Peace Festival - a worldwide humanitarian fund to benefit people who are suffering from adverse conditions and are therefore dependent upon economic help from the outside.
Successful launch of inaugurual World Peace Festival 2011
The inaugural World Peace Festival, Berlin 20 to 27 August 2011, had an impressive success. For the first time it united leading peace activists, United Nations Ambassadors from different regions in the world, leading high officials from the United Nations like Jordan Ryan, Assistant UN Secretary-General, leading NGO representatives from around the world, stakeholders from politics, business, civil society, philanthropists and Nobel Peace Prize Laureates to address and discuss systemic, holistic and sustainable solutions for global peace building.

Vernissage: World Peace Festival 2011 to be launched today
This Saturday the inaugural World Peace Festival will be launched with a Vernissage at Freies Museum Berlin at 7 PM. Along with several peace activists, internationally renowned artists such as Daniel Sambo-Richter, Guggi, Chip Duncan and filmmakers Cynthia Lukas and Kell Kearns will appear to celebrate the grand opening of the festival week and to raise awareness for the increasing need of peace worldwide.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports World Peace Festival
In partnership with the organizers of World Peace Festival, Peace Direct and the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict, the United Nations Development Programme will help to create space for a better understanding of the “Infrastructures for Peace” approach at World Peace Festival Conference 2011. Since 2004, UNDP has supported national and local actors – governments and civil society – in nearly forty countries to develop and apply their own capacities for dialogue, mediation, and conflict resolution.
World Peace Festival 2011 invites Berlin & the city’s guests to its Arts, Culture & Film Programme
From August 20th to 27th, World Peace Festival will present its inspiring, free of charge Arts, Culture & Film Programme. On Saturday 20th, starting at 7 PM, the festival week will be solemnly opened by a Vernissage at "Freies Museum Berlin”, located in the center of Berlin’s new art scene. We invite Berlin & its guests to experience a memorable evening full of exciting arts and culture. Furthermore a fascinating film series at “Arsenal” will provide food for thought about peace.

World Peace Festival will bring together leading peace builders from all over the world to focus attention on the growing importance of peace for the world, not least in terms of its impact on the global economy. The festival is addressing all who are committed to fostering peace building around the globe. The highlight of the festival will be the international peace conference on 26th and 27th of August at Hotel Meliá Berlin.
